Ryan’s Story
Born and raised in Wichita, KS, Ryan graduated from Wichita Northwest High School in 1999. From there, Ryan received an athletic scholarship to play baseball at the University of Kansas where he studied Strategic Communications and History. From 2000-2004, Ryan achieved success on the baseball field as a three-time team captain as well as a multi-year All Conference (Big XII) and All-American selection. In 2004, Ryan was awarded the Jayhawk Scholar Athlete of the Year and shortly thereafter signed a professional contract with the Tampa Bay Rays organization. Baseball served as a terrific training ground for a future in business.
In 2008, Ryan founded THE mattress HUB and has grown the company into a leading mattress retailer throughout the region. As CEO, Ryan is responsible for all aspects of the business structure, including operations, merchandising, corporate strategy, staffing and inventory management. His hands on approach to business has helped to build a strong corporate culture that focuses on developing team members both personally and professionally. Ryan earned a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from Newman University in 2014 and has been recognized in the bedding industry as an innovative and transformative leader. Ryan also expands his business interests into multiple investments including real estate, eCommerce, consulting and a family cattle operation.
Aside from business, Ryan serves in multiple non profits that focus on issues ranging from foster care, mental health and public schools. From 2009-2021, Ryan volunteered at Family Church in Wichita, KS as an Elder and Associate Pastor. His primary role in ministry was teaching. Ryan and his wife, Alicia, have four children, Reese, Landry, Rhett and Bryer.
A product of his life experiences, Ryan hopes his blue collar upbringing and community-minded approach will bring a fresh perspective with new ideas to better serve Sedgwick County.
